My Scholarship
My scholarship begins at the intersections of rhetoric, race, religion, and gender. Utilizing a womanist theoretical approach, I focus on the words, ways, and wisdom of Black women and the ways in which they re-claim their voices and re-define their rhetorical persona by their own terms. By validating myself as a rhetorical critic, I unleash the potential for others to do the same.

My Teaching
My teaching centers an Afrocentric approach calling all students to participate holistically and collectively. I work to cultivate a respectful and responsive learning environment by de-centering normative concepts. I teach students to become competent and confident speakers and writers, so they may engage in responsible civic discourse in their communities.
|
My Goal
My goal as a scholar and teacher is to build womanist theory within the field of communication as a valid and vibrant standpoint. The virtue, vigor, and veracity of Black women's truths have been lost, stolen, and silenced for far too long. My teleological aim is to re-claim this history in every space open to me, and advocate for other marginalized voices with care.

“Only the Black woman can say 'when and where I enter, in the quiet, undisputed dignity of my womanhood, without violence and without suing or special patronage, then and there the whole Negro race enters with me.’”
